AGENDA NEIGHBOR ENGAGEMENT AND INCLUSION ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING Anna Municipal Complex, Council Chambers 120 W. 7th Street, Anna, TX 75409 Monday, April 28, 2025 @ 6:00 PM 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Neighbor's Input. At this time, any person may address the Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen’s inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. 4. Reports. a. Receive a presentation about Community Enhancement programs. b. Programs and Events Update 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider, Discussion, Act approving the minutes from the March 24, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. b. Discuss ideas and advise the City Council on how to acknowledge and celebrate gay citizens. c. Advise the City Council to change the Commission name back to Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission. 6. Future Consideration. 7. Adjourn. Engagement and Enhancement Working with community stakeholders and volunteers we build a strong, engaged, and beautiful city. Community Enhancement Volunteer Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn more about Anna and help your neighbors. During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, 2,165 volunteer hours were donated to the City of Anna. Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes Monday, March 24, 2025 @ 6:00 PM Anna Municipal Complex – Council Chambers 120 W. 7th Street, Anna, Texas 75409 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. Chairperson Theresa King-Bell called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. and established quorum. Commission Members Present: Chairperson Theresa King-Bell Vice Chairperson Elijah Nelms Commission Member Jodi Foster Commission Member Travis Bates Commission Member Akingbade Akinfenwa Commission Member Susan Easaw Commission Members Absent: None Others in Attendance: Council Member Lee Miller Assistant City Manager Taylor Lough Assistant Director of Neighborhood Services Jeff Freeth Recreation Coordinator Tristan Pierce 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Commission Member Travis Bates provided an invocation. Commission Member Susan Easaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Neighbor's Input. Mike Olivarez of 109 Curt Street shared information about the American Legion post. The post has been in Anna for 13 years and has 67 members. The Legion participates in the Veterans Day Parade, which was operated by the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce. Wednesday, April 23rd the Legion will lead the flag ceremony for the Home Depot Grand Opening. The Legion also raises the flag for the start of the home football games. Jim Henderson of 2401 Hillside Drive shared the nonprofit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace would be building twin and bunk beds Saturday, March 29th and Saturday, April 26th at First United Methodist in Melissa. Texas Roadhouse is hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday, March 26 for the organization. Andrew Michrina of 902 Fulbourne Drive shared he has concerns about the lack of amenities in parks for seniors with disabilities. 4. Reports a. Receive a presentation on special events and recreational programming. Jeff Freeth and Tristan Pierce provided a presentation about youth sports, adult 50+, pop-up recreation and special event programs. Information about events and programs is shared on the city’s website, in the Neighbor Notes newsletter and the quarterly Recreation Guide. b. Events and Programs Update. Taylor Lough gave a recap of programs and events that occurred citywide in February and March and are planned for the next few months. She also reviewed the Commission’s work plan and upcoming Commission meeting dates. 5. Items for Individual Consideration a. Consider, Discuss, Act approving the minutes from the February 24, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. MOTION: Commission Member Susan Easaw moved to approve the minutes of the February 24, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Commission Member Jodi Foster seconded. Motion passed 6-0. 6. Future Consideration a. Discuss ideas and advise the City Council on how to acknowledge and celebrate gay citizens (Jodi Foster) MOTION: Commission Member Jodi Foster moved to place this item on a future Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Vice Chairperson Elijah Nelms seconded. Motion passed 6-0. b. Advise the City Council to change the Commission name back to Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission (Jodi Foster) MOTION: Commission Member Jodi Foster moved to place this item on a future Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Chairperson Theresa King-Bell seconded. Motion passed 5-1. Susan Easaw voting against. 7 . Adjourn.
