HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-07-28 NEIAC Meeting Packet AGENDA Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting Monday, July 28, 2025 @ 6:00 PM Anna Municipal Complex - Council Chambers 120 W. 7th Street, Anna, Texas 75409 The Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission of the City of Anna will meet on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 6:00 PM, in the Anna Municipal Complex – Council Chambers, located at 120 W. 7th Street, to consider the following items. 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Neighbor's Input. At this time, any person may address the Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen’s inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. 4. Reports. a. Discuss Summer Special Events and Activities. b. Presentation from summer interns on youth programs. c. Discuss Commission Work Plan and Future Meetings. 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider, Discuss, Act approving the minutes from the April 28, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. b. Consider, Discuss, Act to advise the City Council to implement a Youth Advisory Council. c. Consider, Discuss, Act on advising the City Council on the implementation of a Portal Project. 6. Future Consideration. a. Consider, Discussion, Act advising the City Council to direct staff to create, implement, and manage a non-profit resource directory to be available on the city website. ADA grievances may also be directed to the ADA Coordinator or filed online at https://annatexas.gov/ada. _________________________________________ Taylor Lough, Assistant City Manager Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission The mission of the City of Anna Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission is to work together to ensure all neighbors are seen, heard, acknowledged, and celebrated by fostering meaningful dialog and connections among diverse community groups. 1. Engagement: actively engage with neighbors to gather input and ensure the city is aware of and addressing the needs of all groups. a. Listen: Gather feedback from various groups in the community. b. Outreach: Commission members should attend neighborhood events, sharing information and strengthening community ties. c. Participate: Attend and volunteer at citywide events to engage with neighbors and city staff. Encourage neighbors to volunteer and get involved in city programs. 2. Community Contributions: recognize individuals or organizations that contribute positively to the community to foster a sense of belonging and shared responsibility. a. Establish a formal recognition program, to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of neighbors. i. Understand current programs to recognize and celebrate neighbors. ii. Provide recommendation for potential procedural or programmatic enhancements to celebrate neighbors. 3. Advisement: provide feedback and recommendations as requested by the City Council or staff from time to time. a. Neighbor Presentation: Community group, neighbor, or staff member will provide a brief update of the work they are doing in or for the community. b. Events & Programs Update: Staff will provide a report of recently held and upcoming City events and programs as well as recently held and upcoming events hosted by community-sponsored groups, nonprofits, and governmental entities such as AISD, Fire / Police Associations, Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce, Anna Area Historical Preservation Society, Hurricane Creek Rotary, Boy/Girl Scouts, PTAs, etc. a. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. Chairperson Theresa King-Bell called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and established quorum. Commission Members Present: Chairperson Theresa King-Bell Vice Chairperson Elijah Nelms Commission Member Matt Walker Commission Member Jodi Foster Commission Member Akingbade Akinfenwa Commission Member Susan Easaw Commission Members Absent: Commission Member Travis Bates Others in Attendance: Council Member Lee Miller Assistant City Manager Taylor Lough Community Enhancement Coordinator Olivia Demings 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Commission Member Susan Easaw provided an invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. Neighbor's Input. Jim Henderson of 2401 Hillside Drive shared the nonprofit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace held its first community build on Saturday, April 26th and had 57 volunteers. Andrew Michrina of 902 Fulbourne Drive shared his concerns with the horseshoe pits at Slayter Creek Park. 4. Reports a. Receive a presentation about Community Enhancement programs. Olivia Demings provided information about the City of Anna volunteer program, Keep Anna Beautiful, and community leadership opportunities. b. Events and Programs Update. Taylor Lough gave a recap of programs and events that occurred citywide in April and are planned for the next few months, as well as the commission’s work plan and upcoming commission meeting dates. 5. Items for Individual Consideration a. Consider, Discuss, Act approving the minutes from the March 24, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. MOTION: Commission Member Susan Easaw moved to approve the minutes of the March 24, 2025, Neighbor Engagement and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Vice Chair Elijah Nelms seconded. Motion passed 6-0. b. Discuss ideas and advise the City Council on how to acknowledge and celebrate gay citizens (Jodi Foster) Members discussed reviewing this item at a future meeting. The Commission took no action. c. Advise the City Council to change the Commission name back to Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission (Jodi Foster) Members discussed the current name and history of the Commission. The Commission took no action. 6 . Adjourn.
