HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-01-05 DIAC Regular Meeting MinutesTHE CITY OF manna MINUTES ANNA DIVERSITY & INCLUSION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING ANNA CITY HALL, 111 NORTH POWELL PARKWAY TUESDAY, JANUARY 5, 20215 6:00 PM The Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board of the City of Anna held its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held at Anna City Hall located at 111 North Powell Parkway (Hwy 5) to consider the items below. 1. Call to Order, Roll Call and Establishment of Quorum. The meeting was called to order at 5:59p.m. by Dyanne Lockridge. Members present: Roxxanne Aragon, Pete Cain, Dyanne Lockridge, Curtis Scretchen, Amanda Kellam, Rose Williams, Kimberly Jones, Kathryn Ross, Malverse Jackson, Gina Maria. Members not present: Lottia Windham. 2. Invocation and Pledge. Invocation and Pledge led by Dyanne Lockridge. 3. Neighbor Comments. There were no neighbor comments. 4. Staff reports. a. Welcome Gina Maria b. Website updates c. Meeting time d. Collin McKinney statue 4a. General welcome to Gina Maria, new D&I Board member. 4b.7o view the new website updates for the D&I Board website visit www.annatexas.gov. Select Boards and Commissions to view general D&I information. The Meeting Calendar section lets the public know when the D&I Board holds meetings and the Meetings/Agendas will hold the meeting notes from each meeting when the board meets. D&I Minutes 1/5/2021 Page 1 C. D&I Board monthly meetings are changing from 6:00pm to 6:30pm effective 1/5/2021 and will continue to be on the first Tuesday of every month. 4d. The Collin McKinney statue is being considered to be placed in Sherley Heritage Park. The Council has tasked the D&I Board to survey and assess this decision. There will be an open discussion for the February monthly meeting to discuss the pros and cons of moving forward with the statute of Collin McKinney. D&I Board members are encouraged to reach out to the community for feedback in the interim. Alonzo Tutson, previous Council member, will also be extended an invitation to join the D&I Board for the February to share more information about Collin McKinney and the donated statute. Sample survey questions will also be drafted at the next meeting. The primary topic of discussion will be: should the Collin McKinney statue go up in and if yes where? After discussion and assessment the D&I Board will present the conclusion to the Council for a final decision. Ryan Henderson, Assistant City Manager, will provide a copy of the vision and mission statement for the City of Anna so that the D&I Board can also review and discuss in the February meeting as well. 5. Subcommittee reports. a. Chamber and Local Businesses b. Community Events and Programming c. Internal Processes d. Police &Public Safety e. Youth 5a. The D&I Board reviewed the 4 applications received for the Civic Engagement Scholarship. One anonymous applicant was chosen as the scholarship recipient. The City will reach out directly to inform the recipient winner. The EDC and CDC meet the first Thursday of every month at 6:30pm and Gina Maria will be the D&I liaison to attend their meetings going forward. D&I Minutes 1/5/2021 Page 2 The Chamber meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month and Gina Maria will also attend those meetings on behalf of the Chamber and Local Business subcommittee. Gina Maria is the contact/liaison between the Chamber and Local Business subcommittee and the D&I Board. 5b. A City of Anna holiday and event calendar already exists, but the Community Events subcommittee plans on contributing further holidays that can be added to diversify acknowledged holidays. Rose Williams will obtain a copy of the current city holidays on the calendar and will share with the D&I. Malverse Jackson will be joining the Community Events and Programming subcommittee as the 4t" member effective 1/5/2021. Rose Williams is the contact/liaison between the Community Events and Programming subcommittee and the D&I Board. 5c. Discussed the newsletter template to be used for the D&I link where information will be published. Internal Processes will draft the language for the community event memos and Amanda Kellam, point of contact for Internal Processes, will forward all memos to the D&I Chair and Kimberly Winarski, City Staff, for review. The city is updating the personnel policy and needs input from the D&I Internal Subcommittee. Ryan Henderson will connect Internal Processes with the HR Director for the City of Anna to further discuss the cities HR needs. 5d. Update on Blue Santa-19. Successful event. Dyanne Lockridge is the contact/liaison between the Police and Safety subcommittee and the D&I Board. Gina Maria will be joining the Police subcommittee as the 4t" member effective 1/5/2021 0 5e. Thursday January 7t" morning at 7:15am is the next Hope Squad meeting that the Youth/School subcommittee will attend. Mr. Sharp and the Hope Squad will be invited to the next D&I meeting in February to encourage a partnership between the Hope Squad and the D&I Board. Every committee needs to try and meet at least once a month with community stakeholders and submit committee activity reports to the Chair, Amanda Kellam and Kimberly Winarski by the Tuesday before the following meeting. That's 7 days before the information needs to be presented. 6. Consider/Discuss/Act on newsletter format. See 5c for further info on the newsletter format/template. Kimberly Jones motioned for approval of the newsletter template and Amanda Kellam seconded. All in favor, motion carried 7. Consider/Discuss/Act on New to Civic Engagement Scholarship award. See 5a for father info on the Engagement Scholarship. 8. Approve Minutes from December 1, 2020. A motion for approval of the Dec 1st minutes was made by Kimberly Jones and seconded by Amanda Kellam. All in favor, motion carried. 9. Adjournment. Meeting adjourned at 7:33p.m. by Rose Williams and seconded by Amanda Kellam.
