EDC/CDC Agenda Staff Report Meeting Date:11/4/2021 Staff Contact: AGENDA ITEM: Strategic Plan Update SUMMARY: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: 1.Anna CDC Annual Report v6.3 ANNUAL REPORT FISCAL YEAR 2021 1 A MESSAGE FROM THE ANNA EDC/CDC BOARD PRESIDENT, ANTHONY RICHARDSON A special thanks to the City Council, Board and staff for their hard work during these difficult and unprecedented times. When FY 2021 began, we honestly did not know what to expect. Fast forward to today, and Anna has broken its own records on single-family permits and sales tax growth, with 2022 looking even more promising. Now more than ever, the work of economic development is critical to meeting the many challenges we face every day— recruiting new businesses and corporations, retaining businesses, developing our workforce and meeting housing needs, and creating a focus on higher education. As you turn the pages of this report, you will find a community very much on the move and one that starts with yes. It was just last year that the EDC and CDC Boards adopted the new vision and economic development strategic plan, and I am happy to report that we are ahead of our projected Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in many areas and making great progress on our plan. I am especially proud of our marketing results, adding the services of Cooksey Communications. In just a very short time, Anna is now on the map with brokers, developers and business prospects across the U.S., making headlines often. In 2022, we expect to see great strides in retail recruitment, activation of the Downtown Master Plan, finalization of a site for Collin College, and activation of the Anna Business Park. With a growing sales tax base, our budget continues to increase, providing more opportunities for Anna. The EDC/CDC also plans to hire a third person to support the economic development director and the newly-promoted assistant director. Again, I appreciate the efforts of Team Anna and look forward to more great results in 2022.
