HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-02-27 DIAC Regular Meeting MinutesTHE CITY OF Anna MINUTES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING . 120 W. 7th Street, Anna, Texas 75409 Monday, February 27, 2023 @ 6:30 PM 1. Call to Order by Elijah Nelms @ 6:33pm, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. Dallen Morgan, Alfredo Fernandez, Elijah Nelms, Yoshanda Sims, and Elizabeth Marie Knapp were present. Theresa King -Bell and Sinisa Slavnic were absent. 2. Invocation by Dallen Morgan and Pledge of Allegiance led by Danny Ussery. 3. Neighbor's Input.- no neighbors present At this time, any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen's inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. 4. Reports.- no reports to go over 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider/Act/Discuss Youth in Government event. -contacted asst. principal at high school, invite youth in the fall 2023, get head count, similar to neighborhood academy, they will select in advance 3 departments in advance so they could do a job shadow, lunch will be included, invite youth to a follow up meeting, make a TikTok with them at the end, We will leave named "Youth and Government Day". Ask Youth to help name, follow up questionnaire to see if there is interest in a long-term youth council b. Consider/Act/Discuss International Day event. Potential Date of May 2024, open it up to have people participate, music, food, art, Share the variety of cultures our neighbors have... Host at municipal facility, budget for musical acts can be voted on next year. Survey will run in April, possibly ask youth to use this as a special project to present or do research on. C. Consider/Act/Discuss approval of the minutes from the September 6, 2022 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting.- Elijah motioned, 2nd by Alfredo- fully passed d. Consider/Act/Discuss approval of the minutes from the November 1, 2022 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting.- Elijah stated no quorum, no action needed e. Consider/Act/Discuss approval of the minutes from the December 6, 2022 Joint City Council and Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting.- Elijah Persons with a disability who want to attend this meeting who may need assistance should contact the Assistant City Manager's office at 972-924-3325 two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made. motioned, 2nd by Yoshanda- fully passed Consider/Act/Discuss approval of the minutes from the January 23, 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting.- Elijah announced no quorum, no action needed 6.
