HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-06-26 DIAC Regular Meeting MinutesTHE CITY OF manna MINUTES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING 120 W. 7th Street, Anna Texas, 75409 Monday, June 26, 2023 @ 6:30 PM 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. Meeting called to order at 6:35 p.m. Present: Elijah Nelms, Dallen Morgan, Valencia Edwards, Rahul Luthra, David Rodriguez, Theresa King -Bell. Absent: Yoshanda Sims. Quorum is established. 2. Invocation led by Dallen Morgan and Pledge of Allegiance led by communal voice. 3. Neighbor's Input. At this time, any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen's inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. No neighbors' input. 4. Reports. a. Board Introductions. Everyone introduced themselves, Kimberly introduced Yoshanda as she wasn't present. b. Review Rules and Procedures. Staff and board reviewed rules and procedures. C. Discuss Board Meeting Dates and Times. Present board members said 4th Monday of every month @ 6pm would work best, Kimberly will check with Yoshanda and her schedule. d. Discuss Updates on Current Projects. Youth in Government Day. — Kimberly meeting with Mr. Mackey the following week (Oversees CTE at High School), possibly have some of the students get involved, Valencia would like to be a part of this as she has experience working with youth and government. $1200 budget line for this year, lunches, bussing, and curriculum, possibly 25 kids max based on budget, this would be the 1st step and happen in the fall, have a further discussion after the event on how well we could engage youth after this date. Multicultural Event. — no updates right now, looking at putting a survey in the newsletter, Kimberly is putting a line item in the budget, but she is waiting to see what is accepted, she should know within a week or two. Community Cultural Events and Funding. — outcome of Juneteenth will become a city event fully. Persons with a disability who want to attend this meeting who may need assistance should contact the City Manager's office at 972-924-3325 two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Items for Individual Consideration. a. Consider/Act/Discuss Election of a Chair. Theresa King -Bell re-elected chair 6-0-0. b. Consider/Act/Discuss Election of a Vice Chair. Elijah Nelms re-elected vice chair 6- 0-0. C. Consider/Act/Discuss Election of a Secretary. Dallen Morgan re-elected secretary 6-0-0. d. Consider/Act/Discuss Approval of the Minutes from the May 8, 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Minutes approved 6-0-0. 6. Items for Future Consideration. a. Together We Dine. — Dallen presented, they would like someone to come to the meeting and given a presentation. Several conversations opened up about personal experience. Vote to move to individual conversations: 6-0-0. 7. Adjourn.
