HomeMy WebLinkAbout2023-07-24 DIAC Regular Meeting MinutesTHE CITY OF manna MINUTES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING 120 W. 7th Street, Anna Texas 75409 Monday, July 24, 2023 @ 6:00 PM 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum. Called to Order at 6:08 p.m. Present: Valencia Edwards, Dallen Morgan, Elijah Nelms, and Yoshanda Sims. Absent: Theresa King -Bell, Rahul Luthra, and David Rodriguez. 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance. Led by Dallen Morgan and Councilmember Stan Carver. 3. Neighbor's Input. No input from neighbors. At this time, any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen's inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. 4. Reports. a. Quarterly Attendance Review. Reviewed 6 months of attendance for any areas of concern. 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider/Act/Discuss Current Projects. Youth in Government Day. — Kimberly and Valencia met with Mr. Mackey at Highschool, outcome was to separate youth employment and youth involvement in local government, recommendation to contact high school history and government teacher, or a public service pathway, chief of anna isd police is a good contact as well, neighborhood academy for youth who are interested after youth in government day, adding a calendar for this idea and next ideas so we can present during next meeting. Multicultural Event. — This event will go into parks and rec budget for next year. Marc or Jeff will come to D&I meeting in the fall to discuss what we want to see for next Juneteenth celebration as well as the multicultural day anticipated for the Spring. Community Cultural Events and Funding. Together We Dine Presentation. Presentation by Charlene Edwards (after reps left, D&I discussed pros and cons), board voted on strategy and scope to be on the next agenda, motion by Elijah, 2"d by Dallen. Passed 4-0-0. C. Consider/Act/Discuss Approval of the Minutes from the June 26, 2023 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission Meeting. Passed 4-0-0. Persons with a disability who want to attend this meeting who may need assistance should contact the Assistant City Manager's office at 972-924-3325 two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
