HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-03-30 Proclamation Womens LeagueCity of Anna, Texas Proclamation “League of Women Voters of Collin County Day” WHEREAS, the National League of Women Voters Organization is an outgrowth of the woman suffragist movement in the early 1900s; and WHEREAS, in the spring of 1974, an ad was placed in the Plano Star Courier seeking women interested in forming a local League of Women Voters; and WHEREAS, this ad generated great interest and thus the League of Women Voters of Collin County was formed. Their first official meeting was held on August 27, 1974; and WHEREAS, this group of dedicated and nonpartisan volunteers believe that our representative democracy necessitates the involvement of our citizenry in governmental processes; and WHEREAS, these exceptional volunteers provide a variety of services for the public which include research on key issues, registering voters, conducting candidate forums, creating and printing voter guides, and studying issues relevant to public policy matters to name a few-all in an effort to inform and educate the public; and WHEREAS, we wish to extend our congratulations to the League of Women Voters of Collin County on its 50th Anniversary celebrated in Anna, Texas as we recognize the tremendous impact this group has had on our citizens of Collin County; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANNA, TEXAS, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 30, 2025, as ‘League of Women Voters of Collin County Day”. I do hereby encourage all citizens to join me and the Anna City Council in recognizing this special anniversary milestone for the League of Women Voters of Collin County. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Anna, Texas on this 30th day of March 2025.
