Call to order at 7:11 pm and establishment of quorum. Park Board members present were Erin Coger, KellyBailey, Jon Hendrix and Rachel Lyon. Maurice Schwanke was also present. 2. There were no citizen’s comments. Maurice Schwanke presented a parks update. He explained that there are grants available for recycling but we must have the money upfront to do the work then apply for the grant and pay with the grant money later. We received a grant for the Collin County Park in the amount of $282,500.00. Our cost is $247.00.00. We are talking to Landscapes Unlimited about an 80ft. Bridge for $80,000.00. We have $100,000.00 at our disposal. We are working with Mr. Mann to acquire the property on 455. Also talking to others (churches, schools, subdivisions) farther south to acquire more land. The city council voted and we have a signed contract. 3. Discussions Co-Ed softball League – A notice was posted on the internet and Erin has been receiving calls. But we must postpone the beginning because the school has a temporary fence up. Batting Cage – The school is building a $60,000.00 batting cage to belong to the city. It will have removable nets. 4. Special Projects Community Garden – The city is leasing 16 spaces to start. There are two possible locations, Slayter or Greer Park. It will have raised beds. There was discussion about whether the participants will bring their own dirt and compost or we will provide it. We will contact a compost company about buying a truckload of compost. We need to write some requirements for leasing a garden spot. We want to make it organic, no pesticide use. We need to talk to the Colin County Master Gardener for guidelines. We need to talk to the Village of Fairview about donating food to the food bank. Maurice will research the cost of providing a garden space to help determine a fair cost to participants. 5K or 1K Run will take about six months to plan so we need to start thinking about it now. 5. Park Board Minutes Jan 19, 2010 Erin made a motion to approve the minutes of Jan 19, 2010. Rachel seconded it. Motion passed. 6. Adjourn Jon made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Erin seconded it.
