HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 2006-02-02 Requesting Seat for McKinney on the Regional Transportation CouncilCITY OF ANNA, TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. 2006-02-02 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ANNA, COLLIN COUNTY, TEXAS, REQUESTING A SEAT FOR THE CITY OF MCKINNEY ON THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION COUNCIL AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, perhaps nowhere in the Dallas -Ft. Worth Metroplex have the effects of dramatic changes in population growth been fell morethan in Collin County and particularly along the SH 121 corridor. Collin County has for several years been the fastest growing county in Texas and second fastest growing county in the nation; and WHEREAS, in 2000 the population in the City of McKinney was 54,369, and in October 2005 McKinney celebrated the arrival of its 100,000"' resident. By December of 2005 McKinney had grown to 102,900 residents; and WHEREAS, McKinney's expected growth, based on North Central Texas Council of Government projections for 2010 is set at 105,669; however, McKinney's present building data indicates McKinney already has 104,853 residents. Based upon statistics, McKinney has approximately 1,000 residents per month moving to McKinney, and projections indicate a population of 160,000 in year 2010; and WHEREAS, the City of Anna's population has grown from 1,250 residents in 2000 to a current estimated population in 2006 of 6,600 persons; and WHEREAS, the current population of Collin County is 678,000 and projected to be 1,166,700 in the year 2030. The City of Anna considers this projection to below because Anna is experiencing similar rapid growth; and WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Council (RTC) plays a vital role in regional transportation planning as a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas -Ft. Worth Metroplex through NCTCOG; and WHEREAS, the population and growth of McKinney make the City of McKinney a logical choice for a seat on the RTC to represent its interests and the interests of the other rapidly growing cities and towns in the northern and eastern portions of Collin County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OFANNA, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. The City of Anna, Texas, hereby respectfully requests that the Regional Transportation Council grant the City of McKinney a seat on the RTC to represent the interests of the City of Anna in promoting sound regional transportation planning. Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective from and after its passage DULY PASSED AND APPROVED THIS 28th DAY OF FEBRUARY. 2006.
