HomeMy WebLinkAboutDImin2022-08-02THE CITY OF manna MINUTES DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING 111 N. Powell Parkway, Anna, Texas 75409 Tuesday, August 2, 2022 @ 6:30 PM 1. Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of Quorum Called to order at 6:32 p.m. Present: Alfredo Fernandez, Elijah Nelms, Dallen Morgan, Elizabeth Knapp, Theresa King -Bell; Absent: Sinisa Slavnic, Christopher Prothro. 2. Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance 3, Neighbor's Input At this time, any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen's inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. No neighbor's input. 4. Reports. a. City Developments: human resources internal diversity, equity, and inclusion training series. Staff liaison Winarski gave an overview of new city training. Developed by HR, it's a 6-part series. The program is already 2 weeks in and there has been good participation. b. Police and Public Safety Subcommittee Report: July 21 meeting. Theresa King -Bell, Elijah Nelms, and Elizabeth Knapp gave an update. Detective Mason is now working in a specialized role focused on crimes related to children. Chief is very transparent and is understanding the task at hand with the growth coming. Updates to Zoom need to be made so all people can be seen on the screen. Next meeting in August TBD and Elijah will initiate and email with streamlined questions. c. Anna Community Library Task Force Report, Alfredo Fernandez gave the update. Library concept video was sent out and we watched during meeting. Hoping to start in 3rd quarter of 2023 and finish in 2025, Design is still under consideration, so if any input please give soon. 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider/Act/Discuss cultural events public input meeting. Persons with a disability who want to attend this meeting who may need assistance should contact the Assistant City Manager's office at 972-924-3325 two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Recreation Manager Jeff Freeth gave an update on recreation. Frisbee golf is now ready to go, looking for ways to engage youth age, subcommittee meeting will happen prior to public wide listening session for cultural events. b. Consider/Act/Discuss recommendations for updating dress code outlined in rules and procedures for city meetings. Staff liaison Kimberly Winarski discussed language from other dress codes, new language will be put in place for next meeting to vote on. The board liked "During all official meetings of the Governing Body, members shall observe a business casual dress code which must be properly fitting in size and shape, neat, clean, and in conformance with safety standards." c. August Conversation Starter: Diversity within the Hispanic Community in North Texas, Alfredo Fernandez presented on Hispanic culture/languages, who is represented in North Texas, cuisine, different languages spoken, education levels, large conversation time prompted by appropriate use of words and respect from people of different nationalities. d. Consider/Act/Discuss approval of the minutes from the July 7, 2022 Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission meeting. Motion to approve- Theresa King -Bell. 2nd, Alfredo Fernandez- approved by all 5-0- 0. 6. Adjourn.
