Called to Order by Theresa Bell @ 6:43pm, Roll Call by Dallen Morgan Theresa t- Theresa Bell, Alfredo Fernandez, Dallen Morgan, Elijah Nelms, Elizabeth Knapp, Yoshanda Sims, Sinisa Slavnic) and Establishment of Quorum was made. L Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance led by Council. 3, Neighbor's Input.- No neighbors present At this time, any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item on this meeting agenda that is not scheduled for public hearing. Also, at this time any person may address the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission regarding an item that is not on this meeting agenda. Each person will be allowed up to 3 minutes to speak. No discussion or action may be taken at this meeting on items not listed on this agenda, other than to make statements of specific information in response to a citizen's inquiry or to recite existing policy in response to the inquiry. 4. Reports. 5. Items For Individual Consideration. a. Consider/Act/Discuss the general mission and vision of the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Commission. - The Joint meeting focused on a variety of discussion topics and questions, including: The Commission and its engagement with the community: How do we communicate what we are sharing, recognizing as good, or responding to things we feel we need to address? Potentially videos, tabling at festivals and events, ideas for the newsletter Budget source: Where should funds come from for D&I projects? Bucket of money needs to have D&I Board name on it -formalize it Council communications: What directions are we given from the Council? We want to be proactive in creating D&I in the community, but we are also to address concerns from the community. How are they receiving what needs to be? Understanding blind spots the council has, staff liaison relaying information after each advisory commission meeting, consider a different night change, so city council liaison can be present Development opportunity: City of Frisco and Plano with D&I Board meetings, potentially observe Specific proiects: We can look for considerable grants -yes, we can go get grants, city council approves of this idea Possible Mission Statement: Working together to ensure all neighbors are Persons with a disability who want to attend this meeting who may need assistance should contact the Assistant City Manager s office at 972-924-3325 two working days prior to the meeting so that appropriate arrangements can be made. seen, heard, acknowledged, and celebrated. Mission and vision will be presented at upcoming council meetings- First one in January 10th @6pm. International Festival: Name, set a date, word of mouth, money, code, work with parks and recreation Name of Board: mixed opinions, leave it alone or make it broader as it might bring more people to get involved, keeping it as — not pull the trigger so quickly on many things, change — D&I Board might sound like there is a problem. We will revisit it at another point in time- have open discussion if there becomes a problem with the name Number of people on Board: play it by ear, 7 seems to be working well, not an urgent need At our next meeting: -talk about international festival -youth in government - -focus on all this for the spring/early summer - Get Jeff involved- Kimberly is going to reach out to him - New meeting dam.. Mondays- 2nd & 4th are an option for meetings that work for everyone Subcommittees: Continue to work with police department — advantage because they are working with citizens (great line of sight), we could set up a ride along, build relationship with officers. - Other opportunities: Planning and Development and Council have interactions with housing and businesses, a subgroup that we are trying to support, college and career age students- housing without lawns, chamber of commerce - certainly diverse, churches and charitable organizations- many pastors would like to be spoken with, elderly- lots of improvements and opportunities to connect, Disabled community tend to be forgotten, veterans- first year to show incredible acknowledgement of our veterans 6.
