BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
MINUTES OF MEETING OF OCTOBER 2, 2001
A special meeting of the Board of Adjustment (BOA) of the City of Anna was held on Tuesday,
March 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Anna City Hall, 120 W. 4th Street, Anna, Texas.
Visitors included Mr. Fernando Aragon.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairman John Rattan at 7:00 p.m.
2. Roll call
Members present included: Mr. Jon Rattan, Chairman, Mr. David W. Crim, Mr. Duane
Hayes, and Mr. Jon Hendricks. Mr. John Curiel and Mr. Anthony Geer were present as
alternates. A quorum was established. Mr. Lee Lawrence was present as staff support
to the Board of Adjustment.
3. Front Yard Variance Request – Mr. Fernando Aragon
Mr. Lawrence was recognized to discuss the item. He explained that Mr. Aragon,
residing at 1506 Wildwood Trails, was requesting a front yard variance to allow
construction of a attached structure that would have a minimum front yard setback of 30
feet, rather than the 50 feet required for the Wildwood Farms Subdivision.
Mr. Fernando Aragon was recognized to discuss the item. Mr. Aragon stated that he
was constructing a carport but had halted construction after the City Building Inspector
advised him that there was a problem with the location of the construction work.
Mr. Hayes suggested that the construction was probably closer to the property line than
the 30 feet indicated in the application. He also noted that he was very concerned about
the appearance of the building, especially given its proximity to the street. Mr. Lawrence
also expressed concern that a carport might not be permitted in the zoning district in
which the property is located.
After further discussion, Mr. Hayes moved that the variance request be tabled until the
actual distance between property line and building line could be verified. Mr. Hendricks
seconded the motion, which passed by a vote of 5-0.
